Concordia University - STAT 250: Statistics (Solutions)

STAT 250: Statistics introduces students to the theoretical foundations of statistics, essential for understanding statistical methods and analyses. To enroll, students must have completed STAT 249 (or an equivalent) and be enrolled in or have completed MATH 265 (or equivalent); otherwise, permission from the department is required. Students in Mathematics and Statistics programs are advised to consult their program advisor if they take related courses in other departments, as credit may not be granted for duplicate material.

This course covers fundamental statistical topics, including probability theory, random variable distributions (both discrete and continuous), multivariate distributions, and sampling distributions. Core concepts like point and interval estimation, properties of estimators, hypothesis testing, and likelihood-based methods (Neyman-Pearson Lemma and likelihood ratio tests) are introduced. Additional topics include linear models, least squares estimation, experimental design, analysis of variance (ANOVA), categorical data analysis, and nonparametric methods, all aimed at equipping students with a solid foundation in statistical theory and applications.
